Andina and Rich
The Act
When the folk/pop/satirical singer and songwriter, Sandy Andina gets together with the friendly, neighborhood, yodeling cowboy, Stephen Lee Rich the result is a perfect blend of the contemporary and the traditional. Their new CD, Because We Can certainl reflects that.
Between the title track (written by Sandy about her run-ins with huge bureaucracies) and “Time Has No Mercy” (Stephen Lee’s bit of Americana about our war with Mexico in the 19th century) you get an idea of their musical diversity. Top it off with the Andina and Rich version of the old standard “A Fine Romance” and their co-authored, gospel-influenced tune “You Can’t Do It All On Your Own” and you can get areal sense of the range of their abilities. On stage they add hilarious stories, wild patter, Sandy’s mountain dulcimer, and Stephen Lee’s yodel. You get a show with something wonderful for every family member.
The History
Sandy Andina and Stephen Lee Rich each have decades of experience in music as solo performers. In the fall of 1999, after twenty years of occasionally sitting in on one another’s shows, they decided that the music was good enough and the shows were fun enough to formalize the practice. The team of Andina and Rich was born. Since then they have racked up a remarkable performance resume’. The Grand marais Songwrier’s Festival in Grand Marais, MI, Wild Hog In The Woods Coffeehouse in Madison, WI and Two-Way Street Coffeehouse in Downers Grove, IL represent the tip of the iceberg. While each has had their music played on programs as diverse as WFMT’s Midnight Special and the Dr. Demento Show, they have, as a team, also worked on live radio programs like Wisconsin Public Radio’s “Higher Ground” and “Acoustic Sounds Café” on KUAR 89FM in Little Rock, AR.
